The Woman Behind the Apron

Hi, thanks for visiting. My name is Penny and I’m the owner/baker of Penny’s.

I have been baking at home and professionally for years. After deciding at a fairly young age that cooking and consuming food was the best two things in the world. After years of studying general cookery and hospitality college and university, I fell in love with patisserie and followed along the sweet path of pastry and baking.

After falling out of university without a clear path, I floated adrift but found that baking helped soothed me after a long day at work. Friends and family loved my baking and raved about it. When others would ask: Who baked this cake? Or who made this brownie? Often the answer would be… Penny Baked That.

It was then I had an oven-light bulb moment. I can do this as my job! I baked, tweeked, perfected until I was happy with the brownies, blondies and bars that were coming out of my kitchen. I started to send brownies via the post, to my favourite people with their favourite flavours and I got amazing responses and reviews.

It’s thanks to those who helped me perfect the flavours and have stood by me all these years who the brownie flavours been named after. There are no amounts of words that can be typed out to express my gratitude to these people, who have supported me and my baking journey. My loved ones can now be found immortalised in their own brownie. Incidentally, if you have a suggestion for a brownie, blondie or bar flavour drop me an email or message. You never know, you could have your flavoured brownie named after you.

That’s what Penny’s is all about. Brownies that are homemade in my humble little kitchen, straight to your door for any special occasion that you can think of (including treat yourself occasions). Each brownie is packed individually and a hand-written note.
